Core Overview
A differential pressure transmitter is a measuring instrument that converts pressure differentials into standard electrical signals, and is widely used in flow, level, and differential pressure measurement applications. In the field of flow measurement, it works in conjunction with throttling devices such as orifice plates, Venturi tubes, and average velocity tubes to convert the differential pressure signal generated when fluid flows through the throttling element into a 4–20 mA analog signal or digital communication data for use in display, recording, or control systems. This instrument features a compact design and is suitable for process monitoring and control in industries such as power generation, petrochemicals, heating, water treatment, and metallurgy.
Performance and Materials
Differential pressure transmitters consist of a sensor unit and a signal processing unit. The sensor employs capacitive, diffused silicon, or single-crystal silicon sensing elements, encapsulated in a stainless steel or cast aluminum housing, providing a certain degree of corrosion resistance and environmental durability. The high-pressure and low-pressure sides are connected to opposite sides of the measuring diaphragm; when a pressure difference exists between the two sides, the diaphragm undergoes a slight displacement, and the sensing element converts this displacement into an electrical signal. The signal processing unit amplifies, linearizes, and temperature-compensates the signal, outputting a standard signal proportional to the differential pressure. Some intelligent models feature built-in microprocessors that support range adjustment, damping settings, and self-diagnostic functions, and can exchange data with host computers via communication protocols such as HART and RS485.
Applications
● Differential Pressure Flow Measurement: Used in conjunction with throttling devices such as orifice plates, nozzles, Venturi tubes, and average velocity tubes for measuring the flow of steam, gases, and liquids.
● Level and Interface Measurement: Used with double-flanged remote-sealed or air-blow devices to detect the level, density, and interface of open or closed vessels.
● Filtration and Clogging Monitoring: Installed on both sides of filters, heat exchangers, or valves to assess equipment operating status and filter cleanliness by detecting changes in differential pressure.
● Pump and Fan Performance Monitoring: Used for differential pressure measurement at pump inlets/outlets and before/after fans to assist in evaluating equipment operating conditions.
● Process Control and Interlocks: Transmits differential pressure signals to DCS, PLC, or controllers for flow regulation, level control, and alarm interlocks.
Product Features
● Unified Output Signals: Provides a 4–20 mA analog output for easy connection to various control systems and display instruments; select models support digital communication protocols such as HART and RS485.
● Wide Adjustable Measurement Range: Intelligent transmitters allow on-site or remote range adjustment to accommodate different flow measurement requirements without replacing the instrument.
● Minimal Static Pressure Influence: The sensor design incorporates static pressure compensation, resulting in minimal drift in differential pressure measurements even under high operating pressures.
● Easy Installation and Maintenance: Compact in size, it can be installed near pipelines or on instrument panels. Pressure connection ports use standard threads or flanges for easy on-site connection.
● Protection and Explosion-Proof Configuration: The housing features a high protection rating, making it suitable for outdoor and industrial environments; certain models are certified as intrinsically safe or flameproof, making them suitable for hazardous areas.
● Optional Remote Sealing: When the medium is prone to crystallization, highly viscous, or corrosive, single-flange or double-flange remote sealing can be configured to isolate the transmitter from the medium.
