Level gauges are used to measure the height of liquid media inside containers and are commonly used instruments in industrial process control.
Working Principles
Level gauges detect the liquid level using various physical principles. Common methods include:
Communicating Vessels Principle: Utilizes the property that liquid levels are equal in connected vessels
Buoyancy Principle: A float rises and falls with the liquid level, driving an indicating mechanism
Pressure Detection: Measures the static pressure generated by the liquid column and converts it to liquid level height
Common Types
Glass Tube Level Gauge: Allows direct visual reading of the liquid level; simple structure
Magnetic flip-plate level gauge: A float causes a magnetic column to flip, displaying the liquid level in red and white
Ultrasonic level gauge: Emits sound waves and receives echoes to measure the propagation time
Radar level gauge: Utilizes the principle of electromagnetic wave reflection; suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure environments
Applications
Select the appropriate level gauge type based on the characteristics of the medium (corrosiveness, viscosity, temperature, and pressure) and measurement requirements.
